When our team carried out a raid in the Pangasinan region of the Philippines on Saturday, we rescued Carla from the dog meat trade.
Carla is blind. When we found her, her muzzle was tied shut and her legs were bound behind her back, leaving her completely defenceless. She couldn’t see. She couldn’t escape. She was waiting to be slaughtered.
Her suffering didn’t end there. Carla’s skin condition was severe — raw, inflamed, and clearly untreated for a long time. Her body showed the signs of prolonged neglect and abuse. Carla survived because our team intervened in time.
But right now, when dog meat traders are caught, they are often given fines. A fine is not justice for binding a blind dog and leaving her to suffer. These crimes must result in jail sentences, not slaps on the wrist that allow abusers to return to the trade.
In the last two months alone, we have conducted three successful raids, pushing this brutal trade closer to collapse. Now we must ensure that the law delivers real consequences.
Sign now to demand that arrested dog meat traders receive mandatory jail sentences, not fines, for animal cruelty offences.
